MEET THE TEAM

GEENA FOOKS

As a passionate naturopath and mum of 2, Geena is committed to helping families address and work through their heath challenges with a considerate and empathetic approach.

With Geena’s 3 years of clinical experience she has been supporting families from pre-conception, through pregnancy, postpartum and beyond. She has a keen interest in helping women and mothers feel their best and navigate challenges such as exhaustion, postnatal depletion, weight-gain, anxiety, mood and sleep as well as menstrual conditions including endometriosis, PCOS, recurrent miscarriage and infertility.

Geena compassionately helps families navigate the turbulent time of childhood. From early childhood, navigating all of the “firsts” to common conditions such as eczema, asthma, gastrointestinal conditions and behavioural concerns, with her extra training in children’s health. Geena continues to support children into their teens where a more collaborative approach into their health is necessary.

Geena’s personal experience as an unwell 15 year old in medical waiting rooms inspired her search for “something more” propelling her into Naturopathy. Her experience in the private hospital system with her first child thrusted her again into finding that “something else” when it came to natural pregnancy, birth and a supported postpartum, which she then achieved with her second child. With these experiences and further education in the birth systems of Australia, Geena aims to empower and support families to have informed and nourishing pregnancies, births and postpartum experiences.

Geena’s treatment approach incorporates realistic, maintainable lifestyle and dietary recommendations paired with nutritional and herbal supplementation to achieve overall improved wellbeing and long-term results. Geena tailors her treatment plans to meet the individual needs of her clients. She is immensely grateful to contribute to the well-being of the Balanced Beings community.

WHAT IS GEENA'S FAVOURITE HERB AND WHY?

Echinacea - Echinacea is generally prescribed as an immune modulator. It helps the immune system recalibrate and function to better respond to infectious disease. A lesser known action is its adaptogenic effect. This action encourages the body to become more resilient to stressors- physical or otherwise. Geena loves its diverse use and effectiveness in acute and ongoing sickness and stress.

WHAT IS GEENA'S FAVOURITE NUTRIENT AND WHY?

Iron - Far too many people are iron deficient. There are so many flow on effects of deficiency from fatigue to insomnia, immune dysfunction and improper functioning of the body. When using a quality bioavailable form of iron either through food or supplementation, and addressing causes of iron loss, the results are monumental and are seen through the whole body.

WHAT IS GEENA'S FAVOURITE FOOD AND WHY?

Organic Pastured Eggs - Besides chocolate… as that love affair has been ruined by lead and cadmium contamination, it would be organic (if possible), pasture-raised eggs. Eggs are an example of “good things come in small packages”. They are packed with protein, choline, B12, folate, vitamin A, vitamin D, phosphorus and selenium. They are the perfect food during pre-conception, pregnancy, postpartum and life in general! They are incredibly diverse to cook with and an easy satiating meal. Unfortunately, there are too many kids with sensitivities to egg, and Geena is here to support them through that.
